How TSC is Planning to Hire 111,870 Teachers in the Upcoming Five Years. The Department of Teachers aims to recruit 111,870 new teachers over the next five years.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said the government will recruit teachers to address the shortage of teachers at all levels of education.
Macharia announced that a total of 111,870 teachers will be recruited in the next five years.
Macharia was speaking at the launch of the commission’s strategic plan for 2023-2027.
The CEO estimated that Sh134 billion will be needed to recruit 111,870 teachers over five years.
The government also said it had given the commission $4.68 billion to hire 20,000 student teachers.
The government will employ 25,000 teachers on June 28, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu revealed.
The 46th Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) annual conference was held in Mombasa where Machgu spoke.
“We hired 36,000 new teachers last fiscal year and will hire an additional 25,000 teachers in the next fiscal year,” Machgun said.
Machgu assured the public that the Kenyan Kwanza government will do everything in its power to promote the development of the education system.
President William Ruto’s government has given the biggest part of the Education package to the Teacher Service Corps.
In the 2023-24 budget, TSC was allocated Sh636.7 billion, or 50 per cent of the total education allocation of Sh628.6 billion.
In addition, the Council was given $4.8 billion to pay for the hiring of 20,000 temporary classroom teachers.

Macharia spoke at the presentation of the Commission’s strategic plan for 2023–2027.
Over a five-year period, the CEO predicted that 111,870 instructors will need to be hired, costing Sh134 billion.
She continued by stating that the commission has received $4.68 billion from the government in order to hire 20,000 student instructors.
Ezekiel Machogu, the education secretary, announced on June 28 that the government will start employing 25,000 teachers this month.
