    Revised Academic Requirements for Joining KDF as a Cadet Officer Now. Civil service cadets must meet several requirements before joining the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).Cadet officer or candidate.The term is often used to refer to being an officer in the military or navy, often as a junior trainee.

    To become a cadet, you must be a Kenyan citizen without dual citizenship and between the ages of 18 and 25.

    You must also have a Kenyan National Identity Card (ID) and a KRA pin certificate is required.

    The minimum height is 1.60m (5ft 3in) for men and 1.52m (5ft) for women.

    The minimum weight for men is 54.55 Kg (120 lbs) and for women is 50.00 Kg (110 lbs).

    Minimum academic achievement

    In an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi outlined some academic qualifications for a person to join as a Cadet.

    A minimum grade of B+ in KCSE and C+ in English, Mathematics and one Science subject.

    The duration of study in this category is three years, after completion of the Bachelor’s degree in Military and Security Sciences is awarded.

    Also, one can join the cadets as a fresh graduate, but has to train for three years.

    During the three years, the trainees will go through two programs; military and academic training.

    At the end of the program, trainees receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Defense and Security.

    Once cadets are commissioned, they are promoted to the rank of second lieutenant, which they hold for up to three years.

    “If you have a rank, you enter as a cadet and when you are commissioned, you are commissioned as a second lieutenant,” said Mwangi.

    To join as a trader, you must have a minimum grade average of D+ in KCSE or State Trade Examination Level II Certificate or Certificate II from a recognized institution.

    However, technicians with diplomas who want to become technicians must have a C and above and must have a major in the field of study.

    To join as a technician, a minimum grade C average in KCSE and a relevant diploma or higher registered with the relevant statutory body is required.

    Professionals and tradesmen or women must have at least two years of experience in the profession from the date of registration with the relevant regulatory or statutory body in Kenya.

    Mwangi said the professionals, which include doctors and pastors, have different requirements. The age bracket for professionals has been extended to 39 years.
