Post Primary teachers want changes in the promotion procedure to create a cadre of Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
According to the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers, proper promotion of teachers will facilitate a smooth transition to junior high school.
To facilitate a smooth transition for children, Kuppet proposed the creation of a Teacher Service Commission to increase the number of post-primary teacher positions.
According to Kuppet general secretary Akelo Misori, most of the secondary school teachers have been in the same professional group for years and asked the TSC to inform them of the severity of the problem.
TSC finally solved the problem of stagnation of teachers by posting vacancies in December 2022. In that advertisement, there are only applicants for a few positions, especially responsible ones, so thousands of teacher job postings will be ignored.
Missouri has sought automatic promotions for senior teachers, vice principals and anyone else serving in multiple positions.
“After three years of service, we require automatic promotion to C3 for all teachers in the C2 Work Group. He continued that no frame should continue to be displayed in promotional advertisements.
The official suggested that the thousands of teachers who have worked in secondary schools should be prioritized when applying for promotions to manage junior high schools.
He stressed that teachers are being ignored in favor of diploma and postgraduate teachers working in primary schools.
High school teachers have argued that promotion will help 7th grade students behave well.
According to Missouri, such progress “can have a double-edged effect as a catalyst for teachers to adopt a competency-based curriculum that requires a high level of engagement and positive attitudes.”
He said that most of the principals of the Working Group D3 who work in the schools of the District have not been in their positions for many years and have not been nominated.
“High school seniors are an important introduction to professional development guidelines. We found that most schools do not have senior teachers, so many are hired internally by long-standing schools that violate labor laws.”
According to Missouri, 1,330 teachers are insufficient due to the large number of teachers in this category.
Also, most ads are meant to replace people who leave the service, not promote it.
Kuppet gave educational institutions a week to submit criteria to promote a special group of teachers.
Last month, the National Assembly’s education committee sought TSC secretary Nancy Macharia to explain why teachers were not promoted quickly.
Lawmakers said they would charge TSC for failing to develop more than 15,000 teachers and hire 5,000 teachers despite government funding.
Members of parliament, led by Tinderet MP Julius Melli, who chaired the committee, said the commission’s mistakes had cost the country’s human capital.
“What are you going to do with these people who have retired without getting their love? “Who’s going to pay the teachers?” Mellie asked.
Identify and deploy qualified teachers to teach seventh graders.
“We are currently mapping the target and the number will be fixed soon,” he said.
“We are currently mapping the target and the number will be fixed soon,” he said.
However, Missouri argued that this violates TSC rules governing how teachers are promoted.
“The union is seeking information on all teachers who have not been given legitimate positions to hold the Commission accountable for not following the norms in the promotion of teachers,” he said.
