Teachers Expected to Wait Longer for April Salaries 2023. Employees in Kenya have faced greater pay delays than typical during the past two months. The Kenya Kwanza Government organization “Kenya is Broke” is responsible for planning this.

Ministries Owed to the Government

Currently, the nation owes six ministries Ksh13.7 billion. Health, Energy, Regional Development, and Northern Corridor Development are some of these ministries.

The National Treasury asserts that payments of Ksh843 billion in debt repayment were made between July 2022 and April 2023 for the fiscal year ending in June 2023.

The treasury asserts that the Ksh132 billion spent on debt reduction for the months of January, February, and March was money intended for paying the salaries of all public employees.

According to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), they had collected Ksh1.39 trillion by the end of March. They had to borrow roughly Ksh396 billion domestically and Ksh235 billion abroad in order to pay their bill for the previous nine months.

According to the shifting patterns of government spending, in February of 2023, the government spent Ksh261 billion on development, down from Ksh300 billion in February of the year prior, 2022.

According to information provided by the National Treasury, the Kenya Kwanza Government has spent KSH1.37 trillion on ongoing expenses, KSH100 billion more than at this time last year.

Additionally, it is stated that the present administration spent KSH10 billion less on county transfers than the prior year, totaling KSH183 billion.

In order to lessen the backlog and address the issue of wage delays, the Treasury is presently preparing to send Ksh 31 billion for the month of January.
