TSC Hint Date For Renewing Internship Contract For P1, JSS
TSC Hint Date For Renewing Internship Contract For P1, JSS. The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) has developed a plan to hire 8th grade teachers and extend contracts for in-service teachers.
The board plans to recruit and deploy at least 18,000 junior apprentice teachers (JSS) before schools reopen in January.
Recruitment and contract renewal for students is scheduled immediately after the final KCSE exam paper.
Interns hired in January must renew their accident compensation (insurance) for a twelve-month period.
The extension of the apprenticeship contract will be done automatically for those who wish to continue the apprenticeship.
TSC sealed the teacher’s fate when it announced that it would be approved on a permanent basis in 2025.
The announcement did not go down well with teachers who objected to TSC rules that require them to serve two years before being promoted to permanent status and retired.
Many teachers were surprised when TSC announced that it would be approved permanently in 2025.
Earlier, TSC used to recruit trainee teachers and absorb them into pnp salary after one year.
However, the paradigm shift can be attributed to the large number of experienced teachers KPK is recruiting and the country’s struggling economy.
TSC Director of Human Resources, Antonina Lentoijoni, TSC Legal Director, Calvin Anyuor, who appeared before Parliament’s Education Committee, said that all 46,000 teacher trainees will automatically convert to pnp after two years of service.
The commission also stated that no teacher will be recruited permanently before completing two years of experience.
TSC says it has 46,000 teachers working in practice settings from primary and secondary schools, including junior high.
Previously, TSC had defended itself by saying that its policy allowed teachers to serve a maximum of two years.
However, many practicing teachers say this will be reduced due to their low salary, which is not in line with the current cost of living.
The board hired 20,000 intern teachers in February. 20,000 more apprentices were employed in August.
In January 2022, TSC sent a total of 1,995 intern teachers to schools. TSC has also extended probationary contracts for 4,005 teachers whose one-year term ends in December 2021. This brings the number of trainee teachers to 46,000.
TSC plans to hire 20,000 more intern teachers to help with Grade 8 starting next January.
Trainers working in primary schools receive a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000/= secondary school students get Kshs. 20,000/=.
However, high school students 3,0000 for the deduction, which is initially Rs. 2000
