Two people Detained After Receiving Sh250,000 to Aid in KDF Recruitment
Two people Detained After Receiving Sh250,000 to Aid in KDF Recruitment. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday arrested two residents in Magarini sub-county who demanded and received Sh250,000 to facilitate recruitment into the Kenya Defense Forces.
Allegedly, the two claimed that they could facilitate the recruitment and acceptance of applicants into the KDF.
Confirming the arrest, EACC Head of Corporate Relations and Communications Eric Ngumbi said the suspects were processed at the EACC office in Malindi and taken to the Malindi Police Station where they will spend the night.
“The suspects said the plaintiff had ‘very deep connections’ within the Kenya Defense Force (KDF) and tricked him into paying the bribe he demanded,” Ngumbi said.
According to the complainant, he took out a Sh250,000 bank loan and gave Sh200,000 to the two suspects.
He was arrested while receiving Sh50,000 from the complainant in Magarini Sub-county, Kilifi County.
Ngumbi said: “EACC warns the public not to succumb to extortion. Suspicious cases of extortion can be reported to 1551 free of charge.”
They claim the balance and say they will only process the login after full payment.
According to the complainant, on July 30, 2023, one of the accused, who admitted to be deeply involved with KDF, requested this information through his agent.
On August 28, 2023, the suspects contacted the complainant and demanded the balance of Sh50,000 to facilitate his recruitment in the ongoing exercise where he would lose the opportunity to join the KDF.
The complainant immediately reported the problem to the EACC Malindi office.
