TSC Issues Date To Approve Pending Teacher Transfers
TSC Issues Date To Approve Pending Teacher Transfers. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) plans to lay off more teachers, especially those who have been transferred from their current jobs. At the end of the academic year, the commission will approve and facilitate the transfer of teachers as needed within the same region and between different regions.
However, it should be noted that when principals first approve transfer requests, priority will be given to teachers who have been lined up. The process of relocation of separated teachers is a challenge for TSC and they are facing increasing pressure from various stakeholders to carry out these transfers.
Despite the pressure, the board could not speed up the return of all teachers to their districts because not all of them have claimed money from anyone, complicating the process.
In response to this situation, the senator asked the Committee to provide information on the number of requests received by TSC from teachers who want to return to schools in their districts due to changes in the government’s delocalization policy. Additionally, senators sought details on when pending requests will be processed, broken down by district.
Also, there is inconsistency in paying teachers from other districts to Embu district even though teachers from other districts have been requested to be transferred to Embu district.
Parliament has set a deadline of December 31 for the TSC to ensure the unconditional transfer of all teachers seeking transfer. TSC chairman Jamlek Muturi and director of legal affairs, Calvin Anyuor, have been instructed by members of parliament to ensure the implementation of parliament’s decision to fire the teachers.
The Education Committee, chaired by MP Tinderet Julius Melly, has given the Commission to ensure that all separated teachers return to their areas by the end of January. The Council ordered the TSC to report on how to implement the policy after the National Assembly decides on it.
It should be noted that all applications will be approved in December after students complete the 2023 Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) national examinations. This delay does not disrupt the important national testing process.
