Updated TSC House Allowance Per Job Group
Updated TSC House Allowance Per Job Group. TSC housing allowance per work group. Kenya’s education system has been facing many challenges for a long time and housing grants are one of the main issues teachers are thinking about.
To address long-standing disparities in housing benefits, the Department of Teachers recently created a new system that divides the district into groups called “bands”.
Teacher Update takes a closer look at the new homework allowance structure and what it means for teachers across the country.
The new housing benefit system divides the region into four groups.
Schools are grouped by location, and teachers can receive a housing allowance commensurate with the cost of living in their area.
TSC Housing Allowance for Working Groups
Cluster 1: Nairobi City
The main city of Nairobi is in this group. It is known for its very high cost of living. The housing allowance of teachers in this cluster is the highest, ranging from KES 3,850 to KES 6,750 per class.
Cluster 2 includes Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru, as well as Nyeri, Eldoret, Thika, Kisii, Malindi and Kitale.
This group includes other major cities and towns where the cost of living is higher than in the country but cheaper than Nairobi.
The housing allowance in this group ranges from KES 4,500 to KES 10,000.
Cluster 3: Cities and other ancient cities
This group includes cities and towns that are not big cities and have a reasonable cost of living. Housing costs for teachers here range from KES 3,850 to KES 12,800.
Cluster 4: Elsewhere
Housing allowance ranges from KES 3,850 to KES 21,508 in these rural and non-urban groups.
Also, it should be noted that compared to the old system, the new housing allowance structure pays more teachers in different groups.

TSC Housing Allowance for Working Groups
Variation of TSC teacher’s housing allowance based on group
Concerns and Implications: The government’s efforts to address the problem of different payments in different areas are good, but they have also been criticized. Teachers unions and teachers from around the country are concerned about how fair and adequate the new system will be.
A few important things to note:
Inequality between clusters: Some people disagree with the idea of dividing the area into broad clusters because the cost of living varies even within the same cluster. For example, the cost of living in Nakuru and Kisumu in cluster 2 can be very different. This can lead to changes in the standard of living of teachers.
Cost of Living Changes: Cost of living can change over time. In some areas, housing and other needs can be very fast, which is not really reflected in the existing structure.
Rural Areas Not Forgotten: There are still challenges for teachers who work in rural areas in Cluster 4. Although the new system will give them more money, some say more needs to be done to recruit and retain good teachers in this field.
The new housing allowance system is a step towards reducing the pay gap between regions for teachers, but it is still there.
Ensuring that teachers have fair and equitable living conditions across the country is essential to improving Kenya’s education system.
