National Exams to Be Delivered Using Helicopter
National Exams to Be Delivered Using Helicopter. The government has announced a comprehensive plan to distribute weather aid to areas likely to experience El Niño rains in time for the national polls in November.
About 3.5 million students will take national exams this year, including 1.4 million for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), 1.2 million for the Kenya Assessment of Basic Education and 900,000 for the Kenya Secondary Education Examination (Kenya). KCSE).
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) says El Niño often brings heavy rains and floods in East Africa during October, November and December (OND).
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Dr Belio Kipsang, made the announcement at a meeting with the Coast Regional Education Officer at Shimo la Tewa High School in Mombasa. He said they are actively identifying areas prone to rain-related disruptions and working with various stakeholders in education and security to ensure thorough preparedness.
Dr. Kipsang stressed that in anticipation of the El Niño rain, they are preparing for the exam, identifying the main flood zone and ensuring the timely delivery of the exam and the call center to the exam center. Government helicopters from various agencies including the police, military, forest service and KWS will be mobilized to assist during the trial.
Regional commissioners, along with district commissioners and their deputies, will oversee the mapping as part of the national government’s administrative structure.
Dr Kipsang confirmed the government’s commitment to conduct the examination and said that precautionary measures have been taken to reduce the impact of the rain, which is expected to exceed 90 percent of candidates. He said it is important to listen to these forecasts and ignore future weather events.
Also, in areas prone to security issues like Lamu County, the government has implemented security measures throughout the testing period to ensure the safety of students, as confirmed by Dr Kipsang.
