Sick Students To Do Exams After Recovering
Sick Students To Do Exams After Recovering. The Kilifi branch of the Kenya Union of Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) says it supports a proposal to allow sick students sitting for national exams to recover before taking the exams instead of in hospital.
This proposal was proposed by Julius Melly, chairman of the education committee of the National Assembly. Melley said it’s unfair to burden students who are sick and hospitalized, and recommended additional testing after those students are discharged.
Opollo K’Opollo, Chairman of the Kilifi KUPPET Teachers’ Union, echoed this support, saying that students who are ill during exams often find it difficult to complete grades in hospital.
The chief also called on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to implement effective strategies to ensure timely delivery of national examinations to students, especially in view of the expected El Nino rains in the country.
Three national examinations are scheduled for this year: Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for Grade 6 students.
KCSE exams will begin on October 23 and November 24, and practice will begin on October 19.
