TSC Promotion, Requirements, Responsibilities And Appointment Criteria For Senior Masters. The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has introduced four promotion grades for Senior Masters in secondary schools. They are Senior Master IV (T-scale 9), Senior Master III (T-scale 10), Senior Master II (T-scale 11) and Senior Master I (T-scale12).
This is the entry level for institutional administrators in secondary schools. Teachers in this year provide professional support, mentorship, guidance and advice to their colleagues. Promotion is competitive and subject to job availability.
Requirements for the appointment of Senior Master IV T-SCALE 9
To qualify, a teacher must have held a secondary I T-Scale 8 teaching position for at least three years, obtain a satisfactory performance appraisal, complete the relevant Professional Development (TPD) training modules, hold a valid teaching certificate, meet chapter six requirements of the Constitution and meet all other criteria determined by the Commission.
Senior Master III T-SCALE 10
This class is for institutional administrators who provide professional support, mentoring, guidance, counseling and administrative duties. Promotion is competitive and subject to vacancies.
Requirements for the appointment of Senior Master III T-SCALE 10
To be eligible, a teacher must have served as a Senior Master IV T-Scale 9 for a minimum of three years, obtained a satisfactory performance evaluation, completed relevant TPD modules, held a valid teaching certificate, demonstrated supervisory and mentoring skills, met chapter six requirements of the Institute and met all other requirements determined by the Commission.
Senior Master II T-SCALE-11
Teachers in this promotion class perform professional support, mentoring, guidance, counseling and administrative duties. Promotion is competitive and subject to job availability.

To qualify, a teacher must hold a Senior Master III T-Scale 10 position for at least three years, obtain a satisfactory performance appraisal, complete the relevant TPD modules, hold a valid teaching certificate, demonstrate the ability to supervise and mentor other teachers, meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and meet all other criteria established by the Commission.
Senior Master I T-SCALE 12
This is a promotional grade for Institutional Administrators and responsibilities include professional support, mentoring, guidance, counseling and administrative tasks. Promotion is competitive and subject to job availability.
Requirements for the appointment of Senior Master I T-SCALE 12
To be appointed to this grade, a teacher must have served as a Senior Master II or Deputy Principal III T-Scale 11 for at least three years, have obtained a satisfactory performance evaluation, completed the relevant TPD modules, have a valid teaching certificate, demonstrated supervision and mentoring skills, met the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and met any other requirements set by the Commission.

Duties of senior masters include preparing lesson plans, teaching subjects, assessing students, promoting innovation in teaching, supporting teamwork, maintaining discipline, providing guidance, ensuring safety, participating in professional development, mentoring new teachers, managing resources, coordinating study materials, leading research, implementing policy decisions, mentoring staff, overseeing co-curricular activities, maintaining institutional property, contributing to the school’s core curriculum, publishing research, overseeing income-generating projects, and performing any other assigned duties.
