TSC States How The OCS Training Will be Conducted Nationally
TSC States How The OCS Training Will be Conducted Nationally. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a circular to schools regarding the training of OCS teachers responsible for providing careers support nationally.
The TSC central office has instructed all the regional directors of education through a memorandum and asked them to guide the school principals in setting up a new Office of Career Services (OCS) within their schools after the training.
In addition, the TSC mandated that each school must schedule and designate one teacher to supervise the Career Services Office upon completion of training. The Commission has also mandated the Teacher OCS candidates to attend mandatory trainings conducted by TSCs in their respective districts.
The section of the TSC memorandum on OCS training highlights that the State Department of Labor and Skill Development has been given the power to oversee skill development in various sectors.
It is also responsible for creating and managing an institutional framework for linking industry skills development and training in accordance with Executive Order No. 1 of 2021.
Accordingly, the Ministry is dedicated to promoting careers guidance to reduce the mismatch between skills on offer, improve school-to-work transitions, ensure employability and promote labor mobility. Its goal is the reintegration of marginalized and vulnerable groups into education and labor market services in the country.
As a result, the ministry proposed a national policy framework along with the establishment of career services offices.
Finally, the Office of Career Services (OCS) has been introduced in many universities, most national polytechnics and technical vocational centers and is now being extended to primary and secondary levels. The memorandum addressed to county school officials lists the following duties:
1. Ensure that all institutions in their jurisdiction establish an Office of Career Services and appoint a faculty member to coordinate OCS activities.
2. Facilitate the proper teaching of Community Education (CSL) according to the approved curriculum.
3. Ensure notification reaches all institutional administrators and provide feedback to the District Director’s office by close of business on September 10, 2023.
