1000 Head Posts in TSC Puzzle have No Applicants
1000 Head Posts in TSC Puzzle have No Applicants. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is now unable to fill the senior managerial positions that have been advertised since December of last year,2022, due to a lack of qualified candidates.
According to the TSC study, “Teachers did not apply for advertised posts, leaving thousands of schools without principals and vice-principals.” Public schools that cater to students with special needs and disabilities are among those impacted. The commission has again extended the deadline by seven days, this time from June 9 to June 15.
The commission reports that 1,001 open posts are still unfilled because no applications with expressed interest have been submitted in the last six months.
Few applications have been received despite the commission frequently having to re-post these vacancies and prolong the application deadlines.
The following roles are among those that require filling:
- chief principals
- principals
- deputy principals
- head teachers
- deputy head teachers
- senior masters
- senior teachers
The employer of teachers states that there are currently 987 available opportunities for deputy headteachers in primary schools, 6 deputy principal positions, and 8 open postings in special needs schools.
2,592 of the 5,155 openings that the commission declared during the initial round of advertisements were still unfilled.
The commission then issued a second job advertising, but only 1,591 applications were submitted.
1,000 school head positions with no candidates is a TSC riddle.
The committee reported that because many schools lack permanent administrators, it was thought that extending the deadline would encourage additional teachers.
TSC discovered that many of them use teachers in temporary positions who are not compensated for their time.
Since teachers’ unions charge the TSC with neglecting to progress them to grades that make them qualified for administrative roles, a lack of senior heads endangers school succession planning.
In response to this scenario, the Commission has once more extended the deadline for new applications by seven days, from June 9 to June 15, 2023.
