A New Clinical Medicine Course Curriculum. The Ministry of Education and Sports has introduced a revised curriculum for clinical medicine and public health courses. Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Allied Health Professionals Council and other stakeholders, the training program was launched on September 6 at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe.
The Minister of State for Transport, Mr Fred Byamukama representing the Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs Janet Kataha Museveni opened the curriculum.
EXPOSURE
Mr. Byamukama said the curriculum aims to produce quality and skilled health workers to meet the evolving health landscape. He said the curriculum has been revised to include modern teaching methods that meet the technological demands of today’s healthcare and education environment. This revision is necessary to prevent schools from teaching outdated content.
The minister also said that even those who have studied the old curriculum are still qualified, they will need additional skills and be updated through continuous professional development courses.
Commissioner of Education and Health Training, Dr. Safinah Kisu Museene, explained that training programs in the field of education are held every five years to meet changes in knowledge, skills and technology in the field of education.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of incorporating digital technology and applications into healthcare education. The revised curriculum now incorporates these changes to allow doctors to monitor patients remotely and provide community services more effectively.
The Chairperson of the Association of Heads of Health Institutions in Uganda and the Director of the Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences Mulago, Ms Rose Nassali Mugumirise, said the revised curriculum would improve the quality and quantity of health workers.
It focuses on standardized protocols to produce skilled health workers who adhere to established standards, ensuring that the country’s health care needs are met efficiently.
