Butere High School Closes Indefinitely.Butere Boys High School is located in Butere Constituency within Kakamega County and is a boys day and boarding secondary school.
The Kakamega County school Butere Boys’ High School has been shut down indefinitely due to possible incidences of food poisoning.
According to The Standard, about 100 students showed signs of cholera, including vomiting and diarrhea.
Parents and guardians were notified of the closure by the school’s principal, Henry Okusi, by text message owing to an outbreak of “stomach troubles.”
The communication stated, “Dear Parent/Guardian: This is to advise you that your son has been sent home due to an outbreak of stomach issues resulting in diarrhea.”
“We shall recall them back after the Public Health Officers provide us a report stating that the school is safe for your son. Keep with us, it said.
The County Education Director and the institution’s administration were discussing the situation in a private meeting as of the time of publication.
Butere County Hospital Medical Superintendent Fredrick Juma, where some of the afflicted children were admitted, asked more time to determine the number of kids affected and the origin of the illness, citing his absence when The Standard reached him.
The incidents occur one day after two girls’ deaths forced the closure of Kakamega’s Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School for all time.
Due to potential food and water poisoning, learners were sent home for further treatment and as the health officer try to soil out the source of contamination.
‘Right now 79 students are hospitalized in Level 4 hospital in Kakamega’ Kakamega Governer confirmed.
The incident happens just after the incident of Mukumu Girls High School which caused death of two students. Also many with the diarrhoea conditions were hospitalized as the school closed indefinitely. The issue being likely food or water contamination.
