Education Secretary Ezekiel Machgu has been the subject of an announcement on the fate of university state funding.
The university lecturer warned Machogun against announcing “one-sided and roadside” policies without engaging with stakeholders.
University Academic Staff Union organizing secretary Onesmus Mutio on Sunday asked for extensive consultation from the CS before announcing the radical policy.
“Then who did he consult? Do you have time to engage with stakeholders and get suggestions on how to solve problems? He said.
Machgu said on Saturday that public universities should think about how to generate revenue because the state will soon stop funding them.
“I will go around to every university in Kenya because a bunch of them are facing financial difficulties and we are advised that we need to make a profit because the treasury will not continue to fund more.” he said.
CS spoke at Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology, Nyeri County.
Mutio said most universities are struggling financially and cannot survive without government funding.
