Diploma Teacher Trainees In TTCs Asked to Have Laptops for Exams
Diploma Teacher Trainees In TTCs Asked to Have Laptops for Exams. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a mandatory requirement for all graduate teacher trainees sitting for the 2024 national assessments.
In a circular to all principals of the Diploma Teacher Training College, KNEC has directed trainee teachers to ensure they get a laptop to sit this year’s assessment.
The board has listed eight minimum requirements for a laptop to be used in online assessment tests.
This is a huge blow to many aspiring teachers who are struggling with arrears of fees and other charges associated with the new training which has been adapted to the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
KNEC has given trainee teachers until April 30, 2024 to purchase the aids or risk not being awarded the assessment which is crucial to their certification.
From the markets, indicators show that the laptop required by KNEC will cost at least Sh24,000 and will be a refurbished laptop.
These costs are prohibitive, especially for teachers transferring to different teaching diploma programs.
Below is the circular from Knec CEO David Njengere which was sent to all principals of Diploma Teacher Training Colleges.
