Government Announces Changes On CBC Education Beginning July 2024
Government Announces Changes On CBC Education Beginning July 2024. The Kenyan government is set to launch an ambitious plan to recruit more than 20,000 teachers and build an additional 16,000 classrooms to improve the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and address the ongoing problem of teacher shortages in primary education institutions.
Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang and Interior counterpart Raymond Omollo are spearheading this major initiative to ease pressure on educators and improve the learning environment for students across the country.
During a recent visit to Rangwe Constituency in Homa Bay District, Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang reiterated the government’s commitment to address challenges in the education sector. He stressed the urgency of securing sufficient number of teachers in schools for effective implementation of CBC, with recruitment expected to begin in July this year.
The shortage of teachers, especially in lower secondary schools, is a significant obstacle to the successful implementation of CBC. Educators tasked with multiple subjects beyond their specialized training have led to delays in providing comprehensive instruction to students. Kipsang acknowledged these challenges and emphasized the government’s determination to address them through strategic interventions.
The aim of the recruitment is not only to address the shortage of teachers, but also to ease the burden on school management (BOM) who have been forced to hire a significant number of teachers. By strengthening the teaching workforce, the government wants to enable schools to focus on delivering education rather than struggling with staffing issues.
The announcement of the recruitment and classroom building initiative reflects the government’s proactive approach to prioritizing education and investing in the future of Kenya’s youth. With a concerted effort to overcome existing challenges, stakeholders are optimistic about the prospects for a more robust and inclusive education system that supports holistic development and equips students with the skills necessary for success in the 21st century.
