60,000 secondary school teachers have been extensively trained in the Competency Curriculum (KBK). Junior high school teachers were trained in May last year.
Many elementary teachers will be participating in the upcoming 7th grade teacher training.
This follows the announcement that all Grade 6 students who have completed the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be enrolled in secondary schools located in existing primary schools.
TSC has started screening primary school teachers with diplomas, diplomas and TPD certificates to be eligible to teach in secondary schools.
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said the TSC will collaborate with the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) on how to train grade 7 teachers.
“The Ministry of Education, the Kenya Curriculum Development Institute and the Teachers’ Service Commission will work on ways to fast-track teachers to ensure there are enough CBC-eligible candidates in the country. “Primary attention will be given to teachers who will be dealing with seventh graders,” said a DPR spokesperson. This training will target all 7th, 8th and 9th grade teachers in public (regular and SNE) and private schools.
The board aims to train teachers in languages, natural sciences, applied sciences, mathematics, humanities and technology.
These subjects and areas offered in middle school will be included in the preparation of 7th grade teachers.
