Gusii MPs Uncover Disturbing Treatment of KCSE Candidates
Gusii MPs Uncover Disturbing Treatment of KCSE Candidates. Legislators representing Nyamira and Kisii counties have expressed concern over difficulties when the national examination was held in Gusii county. Ten Members of Parliament (MPs) spoke at Parliament House in Nairobi to criticize the inhumane approach and unfair remarks, which included a survey of students from two constituencies.
The Chief Whip of the National Assembly, Sylvanus Osoro, has questioned the fact that the region produced the top KCSE schools last year, which could be an embarrassment to Education Secretary Ezekiel Machgu. Osoro pointed out irregularities at Nyathwoni Secondary School where Knec staff harassed the headmaster of the central school.
Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo condemned the withdrawal of the students, saying it was traumatizing and a violation of constitutional rights. He spoke of an incident at Nyambaria Boys School and said he would take legislative action to address the issue for the dignity of students.
Kisii representative Doris Aburi said internal activities create an inspiring atmosphere that affects student performance. The representative from Gusii called on the Kneg to investigate and punish those responsible for the violation. They demanded a strict protocol to protect the dignity of students during exams.
Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, noting that the exam is not a matter of life or death, questioned the crackdown on students. He expressed concern over the intentions of the officials and promised to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
Borabu MP Patrick Osero questioned whether Nyamira and Kisii schools would be given unfair scrutiny if they performed poorly in previous inspections.
