KMTC is the Best Medical College in Kenya, Major Reasons Listed
KMTC is the Best Medical College in Kenya, Major Reasons Listed. The Kenya Medical Training College, also known as KMTC, has emerged as the nation’s top center for medical education in recent years. In 2021, KMTC was rated as the top tertiary institution in Kenya by Webometrics.
The following are a few justifications on why the college is the best:
- More Campuses
The College has created Campuses dispersed across 43 of the country’s 47 counties in order to address the scarcity of health professionals in the nation and in accordance with the Government’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) aims. This growth has made sure that we are moving in the correct direction to close the gaps in human resources for health as a contribution to reaching the government’s UHC targets by 2022.
- Even campus distribution across the country
The main distinctive feature of the College is its nationwide reach, which improves equity and access to middle-level medical education. The College, which has 72 campuses scattered across 43 of Kenya’s 47 counties and is endowed with resources and a long history, is crucial in helping the government realize the UHC program and Kenya’s Vision 2030.
- Student population
In 2013 and 2014, KMTC had 22,000 and 23,000 students, respectively. By March 2017, the population had impressively increased to 33,000 as a result of the expansion initiative.
The College created admission desks in all Campuses to support admissions at the local community level in order to achieve equity in access to training opportunities. As a result, as of February 2022, there are approximately 52,286 students enrolled.
- Trends in graduation
Graduation rates at KMTC have increased steadily since the institution’s founding.
During the graduation ceremony in 2015, the college discharged 7,501 graduates into the workforce; in 2016, that number rose to 8,042. 8,967 more students graduated from the college in 2017 and 10,869 more did so in 2018. 12,621 graduates entered the employment market in 2019. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic’s beginning, there were 4,114 Graduands in 2020 instead of the previous amount of 5,098. 12,660 graduates were released into the health field in 2021, which saw an increase in the overall total. Graduates from KMTC are still being produced to fill the Human Resource for Health gap.
