KNEC KCPE Briefing Starts For Primary Headteachers 2023.Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) briefing sessions for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are being attended by primary school headteachers from all over the country in their respective sub counties.
Almost 1.2 million candidates took the KCPE exams last year, which were administered at 28,316 testing locations nationwide.
While the Interior ministry sent out more than 45,000 security personnel, TSC identified 242,406 teachers who were used to conduct the exams.
The deadline for this year’s candidates to register is March 30, 2023. In addition, Knec added a new feature to this year’s registration.
For this year’s KCPE registration, Knec is requesting parent information. Name and phone number of one parent are the details.
Parents can find out if a candidate has registered for the KPSEA, KCPE, or KCSE exams after the registration deadline by sending an SMS to 20076 with the candidate index number beginning with the exam type.
For instance, KCPE123506013 to examine the results of the KCPE exam for candidate 123506013.
Following briefings for the headteachers, it will be the turn of the teachers to receive instructions on how to perform this year’s KCPE.

SUBJECT: KCSE OUALIFYING TEST AND REGISTRATION OF CANDIDATES FOR THE 2023 KCPE KCSE EXAMINATIONS
Registration for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and KCSE Qualifying Examination is set to open on February 1 and close on March 30, respectively.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) would like to draw your attention to the following details in this regard:
1.0 Regular Candidate Registration
Leaders of institutions with students regularly attending class are expected to observe and make sure that:
1.1 Schools with less than five (5) students will not be permitted to register students as independent testing sites for the 2023 exams. These institutions are urged to speak with their respective Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs) to find a KNEC test center that is approved and has more than five (5) candidates so that their students can register there.
1.2 In accordance with the instructions given by KNEC on the subject, examination centers with less than thirty (30) candidates must be designated by Sub-County Directors.
1.3 SCDEs and Heads of Institutions must use their examination center log-in credentials to access the KNEC registration site in order to capture the registration information for examination centers and candidates.
1.4 Principals must upload candidates’ passport-size photos for the KCSE exam (300 x 300 pixels).
1.5 All applicants who register to take the KNEC tests must be legitimate, enrolled students in their respective schools who are transferring to the examination class. Ghost candidate registration is considered examination misconduct and is punishable by having the school’s status as a KNEC examination center revoked.
1.6 Institutional heads and SCDEs are required to guarantee the accuracy of all candidate registration information, particularly the following:
1.6.1 The candidates’ names must be spelled correctly and in the order they appear on their birth certificates;
1.6.2 Information on different categories of candidates with special needs and disabilities, such as visual impairments (totally blind who require Braille/Low Vision), hearing impairment, and physical impairment.
1.6.3 Information on citizenship.
1.6.4 Information on registered subjects.
1.6.5 Information on subjects. 3.4.3 A CD containing a passport-size photo (300 x 300pixes).
4.0 Examination Costs
All institution heads and SCDEs are required to follow the Regulations Act User Guides for the Management of the KCPE and KCSE examinations. Take note of the following in particular:
4.1 All applicants in both public and private institutions will have their examination fees covered by the Kenyan government through the Ministry of Education (MOE), with the exception of the candidates in the following categories:
4.1.1 Examinees who are retaking/repeating the test;
4.1.2 Foreigners (Non Kenyans)
4.1.3 Private applicants registering at Sub County Private Examination Centers;
4.1.4 Potential applicants housed in jails.
