KNEC Warned Against Rushing KCSE Results Release
KNEC Warned Against Rushing KCSE Results Release. The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has appealed to Education CS Ezekiel Machogu to give examiners more time to carefully compile and award marks to Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates. During a press conference in Bungoma on Saturday, Aggrey Namisi, the National Vice Chairman of the KNUT, expressed concern over the hasty release of the KCPE results, which led to errors.
Namisi stressed the need for a thorough analysis of the results before they are released and urged CS Machoga to give the examiners the necessary time to scrutinize, mark, prepare and deliver accurate and credible results. He stressed the importance of avoiding a repeat of the problems that occurred during the release of KCPE examination results.
In addition, Namisi condemned the widespread examination cheating in the country and called on CS Machoga to take action to retool the education system. He highlighted instances of confusion in the marking of the Kenya Certificate of Basic Education, where students who did not sit for the sign language examinations were erroneously given sign language marks.
The KCSE exams ended on October 27 and amid speculation on social media over the release of the results, Namisi’s plea comes at a critical time. The Ministry of Education released the 2023 KCPE exam results for 1,406,557 candidates on November 23. However, errors were found, with some candidates being awarded marks for subjects they had failed.
Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) Director General David Njengere acknowledged the irregularities and said 133 candidates were given bad grades. Njengere also said that calls were received from the affected schools expressing dissatisfaction with the results, given through SMS code 40054.
