KUPPET Demands To SRC
The SRC should harmonize the housing allowance for teachers, according to KUPPET.
Akelo Misori, Secretary General Kuppet, urged that all counties’ teacher compensation be brought into a single, comparable range.
Misori charged that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission hindered continuing negotiations between the union and employer of the teacher.
The rates charged in Nairobi, which were thought to not be the most expensive, are reported to have been used to create the teacher’s housing allowance.
Now, however, the SG claims that some places, including as Kiambu and coastal regions, are more expensive. However, Misori criticized the fact that the present rates are unsustainable for a teacher leaving in any area nationwide.
According to Misori, the existing allocation only permits teachers to live in shantytowns and slums.
He advocated for an upward review that would apply to all county-based teachers.
According to him, some of the allowances listed as being new were actually given to instructors long ago, even before the 2016–2021 CBA.
Misori asserted that a choice must be taken quite apart from the SRC’s plan to suspend negotiations between the unions and the employers of teachers.
The existing stipend, according to KUPPET deputy secretary general Moses Nthurima, is a disgrace to pay.
He stated that they will take the next measure, which they would not specify, if the union’s requests were not met.
The group now requests that SRC take into account the country’s economic inflation.
