“In a special meeting held on December 7, 2022, it was agreed that in the interest of the safety of staff and students, the university will be closed immediately due to the security situation developing around the university and the ongoing student demonstrations.”
The memo reads;
“Therefore, this is to advise all students to leave the campus immediately. More communications will follow as scheduled. The exchange continues.
A police officer was arrested and detained on December 5 after he was found guilty of beating a student of the University of Machakos and stealing a phone and other items.
The incident occurred on Sunday, December 3, according to a statement from the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
The police officer was said to be cooperating with the arrested accomplice, according to the DCI statement.
According to the DCI’s description of the incident, he picked up two Machakos University students while they were on their way to each other’s houses.
The DCI’s statement read in part: “The couple, riding a KMTE motorcycle with registration number 33W, killed the students the next morning.”
Then, when Machakos University students went on strike to protest the outcome of the incident, the police clashed.
