Under the Office of the Principal Secretary, State Department of Basic Education, the Ministry of Education has informed all teachers in both primary and secondary schools to prepare for the upcoming co-curricular activities scheduled for this month.
Sports in schools have been prohibited in the country since 2020, when the world was struggling to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a letter sent to all county directors of education and also copied to all private and public primary school headteachers and secondary school principals, signed by Basic Education Principal Secretary, Dr. Belio Kipsang, the ministry informs teachers to prepare for the election of the co-curricular activities committee.
The committee will be responsible for the organization and planning of the sports programs in all schools.
Below is the letter from the Ministry of Education:
“As you are aware, the existing co-curricular activities committee has been in place for five years. This therefore means the committee will cease to be functional as of February 2023.
You are therefore requested to initiate and conduct the election of officials of the various committees from subcounty level to regional level as per the guidelines that were issued by the MoE,” part of the letter reads.
