Mukumu Girls School Incident that led to Indefinite Closure. Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls Secondary School is a girls’ only boarding school located in Museno Sub location, Shibuye Location, Shinyalu Division, Shinyalu Constituency in Kakamega County; within the Western Region of Kenya. Mukumu Girls’ is located in Kakamega East sub-county, Kakamega county 7.6 km from Kakamega town along Kakamega-Kisumu Highway.
Following the deaths of two girls from alleged food and water pollution, the Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School in Kakamega has been shut down permanently.
As a result of an outbreak that has at least 25 pupils hospitalized, the area education director Jared Obiero confirmed the closure of the school on Monday, April 3.
On March 28, close to 100 schoolchildren were taken to the hospital with fever and diarrhoea.
According to Mr. Obiero, the Ministry of Health is still looking into the possible sources of the contamination.
While others are still receiving treatment at the adjacent Kakamega Referral Hospital and St. Elizabeth Mukumu Mission Hospital, two students died as a result of the infection.
The school management should be held accountable, according to Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale, and legal action should be taken against them.
“The school is currently shut. The school’s principal, bursars, and vendors should all be detained, according to Khalwale.
The Sacred Heart Girls’ High School-Mukumu was founded in 1959 by the Ursuline Sisters. The school was founded under Catholic bases and is sponsored by the Catholic Church.
It is located in Kakamega East sub-county, Kakamega county 7.6 km from Kakamega town. It’s students have always been sleeted from all parts of the country on merit basing on the excellent performance featured in the Kenya Certificate Of Primary Education.
The school is the leading girls’ extra-county school in Kakamega County and among the top 100 schools in the country, a position that the school has maintained over the years.
