Newly revised fee structure 2023. The 2023 Tuition Guidelines have been released by the Kenyan government through the Ministry of Education for all Kenyan high schools.
The new Kenyan school fee structure applies to all boarding and day schools. All Sub County, County, Extra County, and National Schools must follow the fees guidelines.
For students enrolled in day schools, the Kenyan government will continue to offer a free day school. Only lunch fees will be assessed to those students.
Every student in publicly funded schools receives a government grant (capitation) from KES. 22,244.00 per year as shown below.

Transportation within the local area, administration, electricity, and staff compensation are other voting heads.
The ratio of 50:30:20 will be used to distribute school fees.
Boarding school tuition
The government pays boarding school students capitation, which is the same as what it pays day school students. The boarding fees that apply to various categories of schools and locations must be paid by parents in order to cover the expense of boarding.
The information about the fees is provided in Tables 3, 4, and 5 below.

Schools in Category A include:
ONLY in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Nyeri, Thika, Eldoret, and Mombasa. all public schools everywhere and private schools.

Other vote heads include: Administration, Electricity, Local travel & transportation, and Personnel Remuneration.
Other boarding schools, such as extra county schools outside of the towns of Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Nyeri, Thika, and Eldoret, are classed as Category B* schools.

Schools that cater to students with disabilities, such as visual, physical, hearing, and mental impairments, are those that are designated as special needs schools.
GOK increased capitation to KES 53,807.00, which was divided according to the charge schedule in Table 5.
The building contains a GOK subsidy of KES 19,053.00 per learner for boarding supplies and stores as well as a top-up grant of KES 12,510.00 per learner to cover any additional staffing requirements and assistive technology.
Schools are advised to abide by the regulations’ fee requirements.
