NHIF crucial message to registered members
NHIF crucial message to registered members. On the oncology package, the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) finally speaks up. Niff disclosed that oncology is the treatment for cancer in a message. As a result, the oncology package comprises chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer patients at contracted facilities. Importantly, the NHIF offers 20 radiation sessions, up to 3,600 each session, for each beneficiary.
Second, we have first-line chemotherapy, which is allowed to cost up to Kshs 25,000 every cycle. Then 4 chemotherapy sessions for an additional Kshs 150,000 worth of sessions per year for difficult treatment.
Keep in mind that many of cancer patients in Kenya pass away before their time due to inadequate care. The majority of patients are required to sell their cows or land and wait to pass away in order to pay for surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or other treatments in a nation where health insurance protects financial resources.
The financial burden on cancer patients has been lessened, though, thanks to a government-backed insurer. The National Hospital Insurance Fund now covers medical expenses for patients in South Africa and India’s private hospitals as well.
