Official Announcement on JSS Subjects to Lessen
Official Announcement on JSS Subjects to Lessen. The number of junior secondary school subjects will now be decreased to a tolerable number.
This follows an attempt by the Kenyan government to lighten the load on junior secondary school students.
The subjects will be reduced from the basic 12 learning areas to 10 under this new model.
The number of primary study areas will decrease from 12 to 10 in the upcoming academic year, reducing the workload for Kenyan junior secondary school students.
The new action was decided upon in response to the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms’ suggestions (PWPER).
Life skills and social studies are included in this list since health education is now taught with integrated science.
Keep in mind that themes in integrated science include biology, physics, and chemistry.
The presidential working group on education reforms’ tenure just came to an end as they were about to present their report to the president.
KICD Instructions for JSS Publishers About Subject Printing ( books).
The review of teaching and learning materials for the impacted learning areas for Grade Eight has already been withheld by publishers, per an informal instruction from KICD.
Whatever information will be cut out in order to merge the subject areas without making it too thin or too heavy for the learners is a difficult decision for publishers.
According to information provided by KICD CEO Charles Ong’ondo, the publishers will also receive the same letter, and this issue will be resolved after the PWPER tables it.
The other subject areas that won’t change are;
English
Kiswahili
Mathematics
Pre-technical and pre-career education
Religious education
Business studies
Agriculture
Sports and physical education.
All courses will continue to be taught using information and communication technology that is integrated into the curriculum.

Foreign languages these include french German Mandarin as well as Arabic).
