P1 Teachers Lacking Upgrading To Face Unemployment 2024
P1 Teachers Lacking Upgrading To Face Unemployment 2024. Primary school teachers without advanced qualifications could face unemployment by 2024, according to a report by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). TSC emphasizes that teachers must obtain a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) because a certificate in Primary Teacher Education (PTE) will not be sufficient due to the full integration of the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK) from Grade 1 onwards. 6.
The board plans to recruit teachers who have completed Competency-Based Teacher Education (CBTE) and who have taken the DPTE. Finally, the minimum entry diploma for teaching positions will be a diploma that will exclude teachers with PTE certification from consideration. The transformation involves placing the teacher working in the C1 job group and finding the B5 job group.
TSC currently has 46,000 teachers on probation and plans to ensure their permanent status by 2025. Elementary students are exempt from the new requirements and will be approved after two years of service.
The previous recruitment process had given P1 teachers the lowest grade for CBC promotion. Most teachers are enrolled in the CBC Diploma Development Programme, which spans four school terms and requires completion of courses and assessments set by the Kenya National Examinations Council.
The DPTE refresher program consists of 1500 hours of full-time residential training and 300 hours of practical training. Blended and distance learning methods may be considered in the future. To qualify, candidates must have a valid PTE certificate, be TSC registered and meet all program requirements.
