Registered nurses in Kenya are medical professionals who can treat sick or injured patients. To become a nurse in Kenya, you must pass a nursing degree at a recognized institution.

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has campuses across the country where students can pursue a certificate in nursing. A cumulative KCSE grade of C- or better in other subjects is required. (Subjects used to determine affiliation include English, Kiswahili, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics).
Diploma in Nursing
For those interested in nursing, KMTC offers a diploma program with a Kmean C level and a combination of relevant subjects. A diploma in nursing will take three and a half years, compared to two and a half years needed for a certificate.
Advanced Diploma in Nursing
To pursue and graduate nursing at KMTC, you need a Nursing Diploma or Community Health Nursing Diploma. The University of Nairobi and other public universities have similar entry requirements.
After KMTC is successfully assessed and approved as a Qualification Awarding Authority (QAI), HND holders are empowered to obtain the KMTC Certificate of Registration and Accreditation.
The degree is recognized by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) as an educational qualification equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
Degree in nursing home
If you have a nursing diploma, you can change it to BSc Nursing. Here are some requirements for Mount Kenya University, for example, to improve:
Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution
KCSE Section 3 or Level C for previous grades
Current and valid registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Two years of post-graduate work experience as a registered nurse
To pursue a Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta University of Rural and Technology (JKUAT) or any public university in Kenya, the following requirements must be met:
For admission, candidates must obtain the minimum required marks in the K.C.S.E. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English or Kiswahili or in:
Science Biology, Physics, Mathematics, English or Kiswahili and one subject from the second group of K.C.S.E.
Alternatively, outstanding applicants with an approved kindergarten diploma may be considered. This potential applicant must: graduate with honors or distinction from such a university.
Include a letter from your principal confirming that you have been successful in your degree program and that you know enough about the fundamentals of science to be successful in your degree program.

Expected Salary of Nurses in Kenya
Group G nurses are the lowest paid in Kenya. There are 18 different pay scales for civil servants. Workgroups range from the smallest (A) to the largest (T). Newly qualified nurses enter the G salary range (Ksh23, 369 to Ksh29, 826).

The starting salary for nurses in job group K is Ksh40, 000, while those in job group R are between Ksh109, 089 and Ksh144, 928.

The basic salary for an intensive care unit nurse is Ksh129,000. A qualified registered nurse can expect to earn over Ksh70,000 per year. The average salary of a Nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is Ksh68,000,000.
The nursing home salary is supplemented by the following allowances:
Housing allowance is Ksh 3500. 15,000, Exit fee Ksh. 15,000 Ksh. 35,000 depending on the work group,
Uterine transport Ksh.4, 000-14,000, annual Ksh.10, 000 and health risk Ksh.3, 850-Ksh.5,000.
