Senator Cherargei Gives JSS Intern Teachers Hope Of Confirmation
Senator Cherargei Gives JSS Intern Teachers Hope Of Confirmation. While the Teachers Service Commission, the independent constitutional body responsible for managing the affairs of teachers, and many lawmakers remained silent on the issue of Junior Secondary School interns during the nationwide demonstrations, Senator Nandi Cherargei has now addressed the issue.
Speaking to a local media station at Parliament House where he hosted members of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) from Nandi, the senator stressed that the confirmation of permanent and pensionable status for senior trainees by the TSC is non-negotiable. .
He expressed concern about demotivated interns in junior high schools, stating, “We cannot continue to have demotivated interns serving our children in JSS. Teachers must be confirmed by PnP immediately.”
However, keen observers noted that the statement did not specifically include interns currently serving in primary schools and upper secondary schools as the focus and attention seemed to be on lower secondary schools.
This comes after trainee teachers at Junior Secondary Schools stage a district-wide demonstration and increase pressure on the TSC to confirm that they will not be renewing their contracts.
