Tension in Ikonge Girls as Water Contamination Affects a Number of Students. Ikonge Girls PAG Secondary School is a County school located in North Mugirango, Nyamira County.
Ikonge girls comprises of about 600 girls both in boarding and day schooling.
Ikonge Girls performed notably good exhibiting a great improvement from the previous KCSE in 2021, attaining a mean of 7. 8

Ikonge Girls also performs exemplary in games and sports. Last term had a handball team to the Regionals and this term the volleyball is headed to Nyanza Regional Secondary School Games at Siaya County.

Unfortunately today on Wednesday 19th July, in the morning with normal classes going on students started complaining about stomach pains.
Majority being Form 1 and 2, a prompt response from the School Principal was accorded where the nearby hospitals such as Mogumo Hospital and Medstop Hospital was called in.
Around 150 students were rushed to hospitals where some proceeded to Ekerenyo Sub-County Hospital. Latest reports indicate that it was a mere water contamination that is easily treated. By 11am many students were getting back to school in a stable condition.
Parents due to notice came to school but they were advised that the situation is calm and their daughters are okay. Later on the County Directors of Education of Nyamira came in to check the situation. He spoke to the principal who got him around the school compound to assess the situation.
The County Director of Education (CDE) has ensured parents and teachers that the situation is under control and they will do everything possible to see all learners are okay.
Other learners who seemed to be in panic mood stared outside but they are now in a normal situation after seeing their fellows back to school.
This incident comes after the Mukumu Girls which saw the lose of lives of some students and a boarding mistress.
