TSC Acknowledges Errors in Latest Teachers’ Promotion List
TSC Acknowledges Errors in Latest Teachers’ Promotion List. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has acknowledged irregularities in its recently released teacher promotion list, attributing the errors to inherent problems of large-scale promotion exercises. Despite concerns within the education community about the credibility of the results, TSC officials assure that these discrepancies do not undermine the integrity of the overall process.
The comprehensive 724-page document released Wednesday outlines the promotions of 36,505 teachers based on interviews conducted in December and January. Teachers expecting promotion are advised to wait for the official TSC promotion letters to resolve the discrepancies found. Successful candidates will also receive text messages from the TSC County and Sub-County offices directing them to obtain their promotion letters.
Education unions such as Knut and Kuppet advocated for increased transparency by urging the TSC to release the names of promoted educators along with their respective districts and sub-districts. This transparency initiative is seen as essential to allay concerns and boost confidence in the promotion process.
The 36,505 successful teachers will soon receive their promotion letters and have to submit five documents under Chapter Six of the Kenyan constitution guidelines on leadership and integrity. These documents include Valid Certificate of Good Conduct, Free Certificate of Approval from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Free Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Free Certificate from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and a certificate of approval from an approved credit reference agency.
Those who did not secure promotion will receive letters of regret to formally confirm their participation in interviews. Promotional interviews held in December for primary school teachers and in January for secondary school and upper secondary school teachers attracted an impressive turnout of over one hundred and fifty thousand educators, as announced in September.
