VACANCIES FOR TEACHER INTERNS IN PUBLIC PRIMARY AND JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS – JULY 2023
To promote the implementation of Competency Based Curriculum, the Teachers Service Commission is accepting applications from competent applicants to fill 20,000 teacher internship roles (18,000 in junior secondary schools and 2,000 in primary schools).
Before July 18, 2023, interested and qualified candidates must submit their online applications through the Commission’s website at www.tsc.go.ke under “Careers” or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.
JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHER INTERNS
The following minimal standards should be met by candidates in order to be considered for employment:
i) You must be a citizen of Kenya; ii) You must possess a diploma in education or its equivalent with a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching Subjects.
iii) The teacher must be certified by the Teachers Service Commission.
NB: a) Applicants are urged to visit the Teachers Service Commission website, www.tsc.go.ke, for teacher interns Post Primary Institutions 2023/2024, for information on equivalent qualifications.
b) Applicants from TVET institutions for teachers are encouraged.
B. INTERNS FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS
The following minimal standards should be met by candidates in order to be considered for employment:
i) Must be a citizen of Kenya;
ii) Must possess a PI Certificate; and
iii) Must be a teacher who is registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
A distinct advantage will go to teachers with Upgrade Diplomas in Primary Teacher Education (CBC).
NOTE: The Teacher Internship Program is a one (1) year program designed to prepare and maintain the competencies of individuals entering the teaching profession. The program seeks to place registered instructors who are unemployed in learning institutions where they will receive coaching, mentoring, and opportunities to gain first-hand teaching experience.
GENERAL INFORMATION
i) Manual applications will not be considered.
ii) The Commission’s Guidelines for Recruitment of Teacher Interns for 2023/2024 Financial Year shall apply.
iii) Be unemployed and has not previously been employed by the Commission as an intern or on permanent and pensionable terms;
iv) Candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates.
v) Successful candidates will be required to have a Personal Accident Insurance to cover for personal risks during the internship period.
vi) Selection of Candidates will strictly be on merit and based on the number of vacancies per County.
vii) Successful candidates must not fill more than one offer of internship.
viii) Successful candidates will be posted to serve to any primary or junior secondary school in the county where they were interviewed or in any part of the Country where the vacancy exist.
ix) Successful candidates for Junior Secondary Schools shall be required to teach various learning areas under Junior Secondary Curriculum. Visit the Commission’s website (www.tsc.go.ke) for more information.
x) During verification applicants shall be required to produce the following: –
A copy of Teacher Registration Certificate/print-out from TSC
online portal as evidence of registration as a teacher;
- A copy of National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable);
- A copy of the National Identity Card (ID) or Passport;
- Two (2) colour passport size photographs;
- A copy of National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card;
- A copy of Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number(KRA PIN).
TIMEFRAME OF INTERNSHIP
Twelve (12) months will pass during the internship time.
AMOUNT PER MONTH FOR TEACHER INTERNS
This is not a pay-for-performance assignment. However, teacher interns who work in primary schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000/=, while those who work in junior secondary schools would be eligible for Kshs. 20,000/=. The stipend will be provided after any necessary statutory deductions.
INTERNSHIP CERTIFICATE
Teachers who successfully complete the internship program will receive a certificate.
