TSC Limits the Employment of 111870 Teachers to 5 Years
TSC Limits the Employment of 111870 Teachers to 5 Years. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has set a five-year recruitment goal that will result in the listing of an additional 111,870 teachers in order to fill staffing openings in public schools.
The 2023-2027 Strategic Plan was unveiled on Thursday, and TSC CEO Nancy Macharia stated that the recruiting will build on the momentum created by President William Ruto’s administration under the 2022-2023 Financial Year.
She claimed that the new Kenya Kwanza Administration gave the nation a boost by allowing the hiring of 30,000 teachers in the most recent fiscal year (2022–2023) as part of its efforts to address the present teacher shortage.
20,000 intern instructors will be listed by TSC, according to Macharia, but he did not say how many teachers the commission intended to hire for the fiscal year 2023–2024.
In order to complement the current staffing levels in public schools, she noted that TSC has been allotted Sh4.7 billion for the fiscal year 2023–2024, which will allow it to hire 20,000 intern teachers.
“The Commission will need an additional budget of Sh134.5 billion for the successful implementation of this Plan over the next five years,” she stated.

In metropolitan areas and unofficial settlements, Kenya’s teacher-to-student ratio, which is around 1:40, is horribly overcrowded.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recommends a student-teacher ratio of 25 for elementary schools.
