TSC: Newly Approved Salary Scale For JSS Teachers
Teachers’ employer, Teachers Service Commission, has announced a new salary range for junior high school teachers. The salary structure will be strengthened when students are placed to teach the newly introduced curriculum, the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). There is considerable debate about the category of teachers that should be placed in Junior Secondary Schools to manage students in grades 7, 8 and 9. The teacher service group has finally identified the teachers who will run the high school and the new salary scale.
A report reaching our media team from the Teacher Services Group indicates that primary school teachers with advanced qualifications will be prioritized for the junior transition. Many of these teachers are not given professional development guidance for tsc. However, this has become easier now because they are trying to promote with increased pay.
P1 teachers with education diplomas will also be posted in secondary schools. The status report on teacher preparation for the CBC curriculum shows that the aforementioned teachers have acquired all the necessary and necessary skills to teach in secondary schools. Primary school teachers are the only category of primary school teachers with bachelor’s degrees that send them to secondary schools. For one to be sent to junior high school, one must have a minimum grade of C+ in KCSE with the same minimum grade in two subjects.
Teachers who will be recruited and posted to SMP will automatically enter the C2 job group with a minimum salary of 34,955 and a maximum of 43,694 per month. Then the teacher will be introduced to the C3 job group after 3 years of placement according to CPG rules. In addition, teachers will enjoy a lower allowance;
Commuter allowance – ksh 5,000
House allowance – ksh 7500 , applicable for those outside the municipality
Annual leave allowance – ksh 6,000
Hardship allowance – ksh 10,900
Once in job group C3, they will enjoy a basic salary of ksh 43,154 minimum and a maximum of ksh.53,943 monthly.
