The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, Disability Guidelines apply to employees with disabilities and require their personal assistants to perform their duties. Teachers with disabilities must be registered with the National Council of Disabilities
TSC works together with the National Council for the Disabled (NCPWD) to determine the type, nature and extent of disability.
It should be noted that employees with special needs must:
1. Declare a disability at work
2. State a work-related disability,
3. Register and obtain disability registration certificate from NCPWD which must be verified before admission,
4. Declare disability status within an acceptable time period as determined by NCPWD from time to time.
On the other hand, Disabled Teachers are exempt from Tax (PAYE). Interestingly, the commission pays the same amount of disability allowance to teachers of all classes. This means that the Teachers Service Commission does not discriminate at all.
Primary school teachers must have a B5 entry grade, while secondary school teachers require C1 and C2 for their diploma and degree certificates respectively.
The entry grade for primary school teachers is B5 and the entry grade for primary school teachers is C1 and C2 for diploma certificates and degrees respectively. For the first time, TSC has reduced 5% for vacancies advertised in July for teachers with disabilities.
The board has directed the district heads to ensure that 5% of the newly advertised posts are reserved for the recruitment of disabled teachers across the state.
“The council ensures that 5 percent of the advertised seats are reserved for the recruitment of disabled teachers as per the provisions of the Constitution and the Act,” he said.
