TSC Seeks 4.5B for Teacher Promotions and TPD Programs
TSC Seeks 4.5B for Teacher Promotions and TPD Programs. TSC anticipates appointing 602 principals for regular schools, 2,733 head teachers for regular primary schools, 1,330 secondary teachers I, 725 deputy principals for secondary schools, 224 deputy principals for senior high schools, and about 208 senior masters for secondary schools.
The Teacher Professional Development (TDP) program and teacher promotion are the two goals of the 4.3 billion shillings that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is requesting.
The budget contains 2.2 billion shillings for teachers who have been in the same work group for a long time and for those who have earned higher degrees, while 2.1 billion shillings will go toward funding the TPD program.
The commission said in its presentation to the National Assembly’s education committee, which is reviewing the 2023/2024 budgets, that it too needs more money for recruitment of 20,000 Intern JSS teachers and implementation of comprehensive medical cover.
Dr. Nancy Macharia, the chief executive officer of TSC, brought attention to the problem of teachers being in the same work group for too long, which lowers motivation and lowers production.
“Informed by its strategic plan, the Medium Plan, the Vision 2030, and the National priorities as stated in the Kenya Kwanza Manifesto, the Commission has produced the 2023–24 fiscal year and the medium-term forecasts.
The need to increase access to high-quality health, education, and safety nets for vulnerable groups is one of the crucial concerns addressed by the manifesto, according to Macharia.
TSC is requesting 2.2 billion shillings to elevate teachers across several job groups in order to address this issue.
“This situation also has an impact on how well students are educated. For the promotion of teachers in various job categories, TSC needs Sh2.2 billion, according to Macharia.
According to the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG), TSC published job advertisements in April for nearly 14,000 senior teachers, including principals, senior masters, secondary educators, head teachers, and deputy headteachers.
The 7,720 postings available for Deputy Head Teacher II in normal elementary schools are the most in this category.
TSC is also anticipated to promote 2,733 head teachers for conventional primary schools, 1,330 secondary teachers I, 725 deputy principals II, 602 principals for conventional schools, 224 deputy principals III, and roughly 208 senior masters II.
