TSC: Updated Salary Scale For Teachers 2023. In accordance to introduction of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Junior Secondary was also introduced. The new salary scale for teachers who will be assigned to junior secondary schools has been made public by the employees’ employer, the Teachers Service Commission.

The tsc’s Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) had barred these teachers from promotion. However, they may now breathe a sigh of relief because they will soon experience promotions with better compensation.
Additionally, P1 teachers with a degree in education will be stationed at junior secondary schools. The above-mentioned teachers have obtained all necessary and required qualifications to teach in junior secondary, according to the status report on teacher preparedness for the CBC curriculum.
The only type of primary school teachers that TSC sends to secondary schools are primary school tutors with a bachelor’s degree in education.
One must have obtained a minimum grade of a C+ in KCSE along with the same minimum grade in the two teaching subjects to be eligible to be posted to junior secondary school.
Teachers who are hired and assigned to junior secondary schools will automatically fall under job category C2, with a base wage that ranges from 34,955 to 43,694 per month.
After three years have passed since their deployment, the teachers will be promoted to job group C3 in accordance with CPG regulations.
Additionally, the teachers will also benefit from the following outlined allowances;
- Commuter allowance -ksh 5,000
- House allowance – ksh 7500 , applicable for those outside the municipality
- Annual leave allowance -ksh 6,000
- Hardship allowance -ksh 10,900
The moment they join job group C3, they will enjoy a basic salary of ksh 43,154 minimum and a maximum of ksh.53,943 monthly.
