University TVET and TTC students will choose their courses the next week
University TVET and TTC students will choose their courses the next week. Students seeking admission to universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutes (TVETs) can submit their applications after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) opens the application site the next week.
The statement was made by KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome on Monday during a meeting with the registrars of all institutions.
The institutions are currently under pressure to deliver the data necessary to comply with the new funding model set by President William Ruto last week.
Universities have until today to submit data to KUCCPS on the price of their programs; after that, the organization will publicize the information to help students make judgments.
Regardless of whether the students are self- or government-sponsored, Dr. Wahome issued the registrars orders to disclose the cost of all their programs at the Monday meeting.
“What is the price of your program? Since there are so many different ways to define students as self- or government-sponsored, there are problems. What is the cost of offering the service? questioned Dr. Wahome.
On Sunday, the vice chancellors convened a conversation about the issue.
Dr. Wahome gave the registrars specific instructions to just include the costs of the various programs, leaving out the costs of lodging and meals.
In Dr. Ruto’s latest plan, block financing for university students would be replaced by a government-determined proportion that would be allocated to each student in accordance with the cost of the course(s) they are enrolled in.
During the discussion with registrars, Dr. Wahome requested that the universities simply publish the actual cost of the first year of each program in order to admit the 2022 applicants.
Prior to 2015, the Universities Funding program used the differentiated unit cost (DUC) to pay universities.
It provides the average course cost across all institutions, however this will undoubtedly change under the new system given that universities have varying pricing.
Dr. Wahome believes that because of the linked internships, the cost of engineering and clinical medicine degrees will undoubtedly alter over time.
In a letter sent on Saturday, Dr. Wahome asked universities to produce data by Tuesday outlining the annual cost.
Please be aware that although Kuccps will list all programs, the government will only award scholarships to students who select degree programs at public universities. Government aid is not available to students who opt to enroll in private universities and Tvets programs; they can only apply for Helb loans.
