The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) estimates that 36,829 primary and secondary school teachers are qualified for promotions.
CEO of TSC’s perspective on teacher promotions

According to TSC Chief Executive Nancy Macharia, the commission intends to promote 11,258 teachers in the common cadre during the current fiscal year, subject to funding availability.
“TSC will advance 13,717 teachers,” she continues.
For 1,021 teachers, there is a competitive foundation and utilization of affirmative action in the ASAL and policies for hard-to-reach areas.
The TSC reported that 4,006 teachers were promoted through a competitive process in the 2019–20 fiscal year and 16,032 more were promoted in the 2020–21 fiscal year.
In the 2019–20 fiscal year, approximately 5,034 teachers received promotions based on a common cadre, whereas 94,76 teachers received promotions based on the same criteria in the next fiscal year.
