JSS Principals New Salary Scale. With the release of deployment letters, the Teachers Service Commission TSC’s most recent action, primary school head teachers have since been promoted to oversee junior secondary schools, receiving new salaries.
This Monday, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) formally announced it by requesting temporary principals in letters to primary school head teachers through its Sub County Directors.
TSC provided these promotion letters to primary school administrators as long as junior secondary schools and high schools had pupils enrolled.
Prior to publishing or mailing these letters, TSC did not confirm the principal’s academic background.
Today, the job group of each headteacher determines the TSC remuneration for primary school heads.

The updated pay scale for the various job groups is shown here.
Grade D1 under Job Group P.
These are principals of primary schools who work at institutions with big student populations.
Their remuneration is between Ksh 77,840 and Ksh 93,408.
2. N-Grade C5 under Job group
These are primary school principals assigned to institutions with small student populations.
Their pay ranges from Ksh 62,272 to Ksh 77,840 per month.
Since the most recent appointment letters to lead junior secondary schools, TSC is failed to give them additional compensation for their additional responsibilities.
An notice on the TSC website states that the application process for the deployment of primary school teachers has been reopened and will be open until March 22nd.
The revised pay scales for teachers who will be working in junior secondary are as follows:
~TSC Basic salary 34,955
~House allowance (other areas) 7,500
~Hardship allowance 10,900
~ Commuter allowance 5,000
~ Leave allowance (paid only in January) 6,000
To solve the severe teacher shortage in junior secondary schools, TSC has agreed to relax the requirements for sending teachers to junior high schools.
The most current directive states that TSC teachers who have successfully completed a bridge course and have a mean KCSE score of C plain are qualified to work with students in grades 7, 8, and 9.
TSC also suggests offering the opportunity for P1 teachers who received their undergraduate degrees before December 31, 2015, to go up to jss.
