    Terminated Salary Increase for Teachers

Terminated Salary Increase for Teachers. There have been a lot of ideas for compensation increases for teachers. The teacher’s unions are the ones who have proposed these ideas. However, since President William Ruto refused any form of teacher pay raise, their petitions have been denied. The teachers initially had great expectations that they would receive the salary increase that was guaranteed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the upcoming fiscal year.

President and Teachers Union Executive Meeting

The 2021–2025 collective bargaining agreement review discussions were begun. The Teachers Service Commission and the teachers’ unions were the parties to the negotiations. The Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers met with the president last week.

Officials from the union were lobbying for wage increases of 40% and 60%, respectively. The president, however, rejected the proposals, claiming that the current situation of the economy is inadequate. He acknowledged that the demands for pay increases are currently unsupportable.

The kisii secretary chapter, Joseph Abincha, confirmed that the president was unable to support the demands for pay raises at this time but promised to bring up the salary increment issue again after the economy has stabilized and improved. The president had a meeting with representatives of the teachers’ union to request their backing for a 3% housing levy. The authorities brought up the wage increment issue to the president before the 3% housing levy negotiations started, but he rejected them.

The president was unequivocal in his assertion that the finance law must be passed at any costs. We both spoke our opinions and reasons, and he did the same, although we had a lot of disagreements. Officials from the union said. The 3% housing levy, according to union officials, will have a significant negative impact on teachers because the majority of them are not interested in the affordable housing program.

After the state house meeting, contact was conducted through the KUPPET national office. In an effort to gain Akelo Misori’s opinion on the matter, calls and SMS messages to him were unsuccessful. On the other side, Collins Oyuu remained silent about the situation. President consultations proved fruitless.

    Terminated Salary Increase for Teachers

The housing project was Kenya Kwanza’s agenda, and it had to be passed by any means, the president further affirmed. Teachers were dealt a severe blow when the president made no mention of plans for a salary increase for them soon.
