The Teachers Service Commission has been combating the issue for many years due to the acute dearth of competent instructors in several academic areas.
To address the issue, the government has lately hired intern instructors and upgraded elementary school teachers to teach in the JSS.
Notwithstanding these measures, the teacher shortage continues to be a major problem in the education sector.
Some people think TSC has to be more aggressive in identifying and resolving the teacher shortage because the Commission has come under fire for not doing enough to address the problem.
In response to this criticism, Dr. Macharia’s Commission stated that it is making every effort to hire and keep skilled instructors. According to the Commission, they have been collaborating closely to find a solution with the government and other interested parties.
The TSC CEO informed the National Assembly that 20,000 intern teachers would be engaged to teach the grade in July to cope with the teacher shortage in Grade 7.
By the end of this week, more than 10,000 instructors on internship contracts are anticipated to report to their places of employment and start instructing students in Grade 7.
