Updated Academic Calendar 2023
The Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary, and College calendars for 2023 were updated on Monday by the Ministry of Education.
Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang informed education authorities of the new calendar dates—a modification to those issued on November 7, 2022—in a circular.
The ministry specifies in the calendar that the first term, which started on January 23, will last 13 weeks. Students will have a 3-day half-term break from March 16 to March 19, 2023, and classes will end on April 22.
The second 14-week long term will begin on May 8; there will be a half-term break from June 29 to July 2. Then, starting on August 12, schools will be out of session until August 27.
The shortest term of the academic year, the third, will begin on August 28 after the two-week break. This semester, which runs until October 27, will not have a break.
Holidays will be taken by students who are not taking their national exams from October 28, 2023, until January 8, 2024.
The KPSEA and KCPE exams for pupils in Grade Six and Class Eight will start on October 30 and end on November 2, 2023.
On November 3, 2023, the KCSE exam will start, and it will last until November 24, 2023.
Beginning on November 27, teachers will start marking examinations through December 15th, 2023, for a three-week session.
The second term will last from January 23 to April 21 for students in Teachers Training Colleges who finished their first term last year. The third term will last from May 8 to August 11 for those students.
