Updated TTC Minimum Grade For Entry 2023
Updated TTC Minimum Grade For Entry 2023. The second interim report from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) was completed last week. President William received this report. The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms was tasked to peruse and evaluate the required minimum grades for Teachers Training College (TTC) in Kenya.
This taskforce’s recommendations include decreasing the entry grade for Kenya’s Teacher Training Institutions (TTCs). The main reason being, for the government to be able to attain the required number of teachers but of the required grades.
Minimum grade for new TTC applicants
This fresh suggestion to decrease the TTC entry grade was initially put up in 2018, but it never materialized.
The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), it should be recalled, indicated that the entry requirements for diploma and P1 certificate programmes had been dropped during this period.
One must receive a C (plain) or C- (minus) on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in order to enroll for a diploma in education (KCSE).
This was in contrast to the prior C+ minimal standards (plus) which was a required grade in the previous applications.
Point of Note; A D+ was necessary to be eligible for the P1 certificate in education (plus). It was lower than the previous minimum of a C. (plain).
The team currently suggests that anyone from a non-Asal region who wants to join the DPTE must have a mean senior school grade of C (plain) or comparable, as well as a C- (minus) in either English or Kiswahili and Mathematics.
The minimum KCSE mean grade for applicants from Asal areas and trainees with disabilities and special needs will be C-minus with D+ (plus) in English or Kiswahili and D(Plain) in mathematics.
Also, the task committee recommended that applicants for DSTE have a mean grade of C (plain) with C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects.
According to the taskforce, each pre-service Diploma Teacher Education degree should be three years long.
