KFS Launch Interviews For Job Opportunities With the Green Army. The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) recently announced that they are currently interviewing 4,000 Kenyan candidates for the Green Army job program. This initiative is in line with President William Ruto’s ambitious goal of achieving 30% forest cover by 2023.
As part of this effort, a select group of young Kenyans will be responsible for planting an incredible 15 billion trees over ten years, equal to the Green Army’s annual goal of 1.5 billion trees to be planted and maintained. .
KFS is accepting applications and interviews for program participants are scheduled in the coming weeks. After registration, these people will work as nurseries under the Ministry of Environment. Their main tasks are growing seedlings, handling seedlings and participating in various forestry activities inside the forest.
To ensure the safety of the seeds planted by the Green Army, KFS has implemented various measures, including monitoring, careful irrigation practices, pest control and community participation to improve management. They have also introduced the Jaza Miti mobile application to track and monitor trees planted across the country.
In December 2022, President William Ruto announced a Sh15 billion tree plan aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and restoring 5.1 million hectares of degraded landscapes. KFS currently provides 42.4 million seedlings in nurseries, 22 million of which are ready to be planted in the current monsoon season. Green Army’s first mission is to plant more than 21 million of these seedlings in various parts of the country.
