Fire Claims Property Worth Millions in Ikonge Market. It is of great worry and disappointment to Ikonge residents due to fire which has destroyed properties worth millions. The fire started at around 8:30PM from one of the shops and quickly spread to other shops which are mainly made of iron sheets and woods around the Ikonge- Kisii Stage.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established as many claims that no one has the real answer to what started the fire which turned to be inferno.
However, electricity can not be the reason since there was a blackout shortly after the heavy rains.
The area MCA Hon. Nyabaro showed up to the scene almost immediately as he made a call to Nyamira for Fire Rescue team. He also ordered the police to bring order at the scene and also prevent the residents from looting other shops around.
The Education Highlights Media team tried to interrogate the residents and mainly traders on the situation and many seemed disappointed and not knowing the cause of the scene.
The Fire fighter rescue team from Nyamira arrived an hour later aided by fire engine from Sasini Factory.
From one of the traders, he said the cause of the inferno was yet to be established.

“We tried to put out the fire ourselves in vain. It had already spread to several shops,” said Mr. Moseti who owns a Mkurungenzi shop at the centre.
“We however successfully stopped the fire from spreading to a nearby petrol station. Had this happened, the story would have been different,” he told Education Highlights.
